The Silversown Sky

LI: To structure and write a narrative

I used a Gemini Gem to help us add detail to a narrative. Our Gem asked us questions that made us think of different ways we could add detail and description to our narrative. When I finished I used the Storybook feature in Gemini to create an illustrated version. This was a bit harder to do because I had to keep adjusting the prompts to get as close to my original narrative as I could because you had to be very specific to get what you wanted,

Something we found interesting was how Gemini could do alot of great things and it could do what ever you asked.

Summer Learning Journey

LI: To celebrate our success

Last week PBS had their Summer Learning Journey celebration assembly and We were the number Top School For SLJ in the whole New Zealand which was very impresive, and also Mrs Grant came and presented our certificates and prizes. Painting the Town Mural

LI: To design a mural for our community that connects to my culture

For Reading we read ‘Painting the Town’ by by Renata Hopkins. This text was about how Christchurch has painted murals all over the city to bring back happiness to the city after the 2011 earthquake destroyed 80% of the CBD. My mural shows the culture of New Zealand and the Mountain which is called Maungarei.

I think the murals were painted to educate them and to celebrate the local history and also the beutiful enviroments.

Social Influence Danger

LI: To evaluate peer pressure, digital interactions and social influences

We unpacked how in a world of followers and influencers, how we can stay the ‘Navigator’ of our own lives. We enjoyed this activity because it showed us what social influnce contains and how Social Influence could be dangerous, and one more thing is it can change people behavier and it also encourges children to keep going on Social Media.

Owl First Flight

  • LI: To write a narrative from the point of view of a baby owl on its fist flight
  • Mrs Anderson read us the book ‘First Flight’ by June Crebbin. We talked about the narrators point of view and used a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what the story might look like when told in the first person.
  • I enjoyed using the Gem because it helped me learn more skills

The sun setting behind the jagged silhouette of hills. The moon was rising as the silver light spilled over the canopy, turning the leaves into shards of glass. The wind breezed through me as chills ran down my feathers. Tonight wasn’t any night, tonight was the night I adventure through the sky. One wish that I finally was about to accomplish.

Every evening, as the shadows stretched long across the forest floor, I watched as my mother would stir, her feathers rustling like dry silk, before she launched herself into the abyss, I asked her “Am I ready to fly”? My mother whispered as I got the chills “Not yet but you will one day”. I remained behind, anchored into my nest, feeling like a stone at the bottom of a river as I watched others fly and play around. Not knowing how to fly was tough.

The shift from the cozy center of the nest to the precipice was more than a few steps. It was a cold, terrifying night. As I crept toward the edge of the nest. The familiar world of tangled twigs and soft moss fell away. The ground below didn’t just look distant; it looked predatory. The grass floor, which seemed so soft from the safety of the nest, was now sharp greens and shadows, swirling in a dizzying depth.

I summoned all my bravery and drew myself up closing my eyes, I took a leap of faith and flapped my majestic wings. Peeking through one eye, the terror turned into wonder. I wasn’t falling, I was flying in the air. The grass that had looked like a distant threat was now soft. I excitedly swoop through the tree trunks. I land back in my nest and I see my mother coming back. I told my mother about what I experienced and I asked her the last time “Am I ready to fly with you?”. My mother confidently replied “yes dear you may fly with me”.

Johnny Pohe and the Great Escape

  • LI: To understand how historical context and identity (being the first Māori pilot) influenced an individual’s choices and service.

This week in Reading we learned about Johnny Pohe and the Great Escape in 1943. We read about two different opinions on whether the escape was brave or too risky. I had to think about which opinion I agreed with and explain my reasons. I also learned how the prisoners worked together and secretly dug tunnels to try and escape. This helped me understand the courage and determination they had. It also helped me practise sharing my opinion and using ideas from the text to

Leaers And Cultures

LI: To collaborate to create a piece of art

For this task LS2 drew leaders back in the day, our leader is Jonah Lomu this task was about collaborating and learn to work with people you didn’t really know – you might need to talk about being a leader, listening, sharing ideas and compromising. Something I learnt from this was to collaborate with more people.
